Sensory Program

The A. Harry Moore multisensory environment was created many years ago to engage students that are unable to access the educational environment in the typical manner.  Our goal is to provide an environment that is safe and has stations with controlled sensory stimuli to mimic many developmental sensory experiences that the students were denied based on their neurological or physical deficits.

A multi-sensory environment uses equipment that stimulates the senses and it offers the students an opportunity to exercise choice.  It is a non-directive area where the student is relieved from the constraints of their disability and allowed to interact with their environment in their own unique way.  It fosters a sense of self-regulation and provides a feeling of empowerment over the student’s environment.   This new found ability to self-regulate will open the door to the basic task skills necessary to participate and make progress in the educational environment.
