Our Vision

A. Harry Moore School, a team-driven, multidisciplinary demonstration and laboratory school, is a professional community of living and learning based on shared leadership, collaborative approaches, and research-based practice.   We provide support to our students in developing independent living skills as well as access to academic, physical, therapeutic, social, and emotional growth opportunities so that they may achieve their fullest potential in school and beyond.

We support our students as they progress along a developmental continuum of social, emotional, communicative, and cognitive growth.

A multidisciplinary, inclusive approach by our staff unlocks students’ ability to live as independently as possible, while also maximizing their potential academically and personally.

A collaborative, integrated, safe and supportive learning environment staffed by a community of educators dedicated to excellence effectively meets the diverse needs of our students.

Our Mission

For 101 years, as a laboratory and demonstration school, the A. Harry Moore School of New Jersey City University embraced a dual mission of, first, providing a comprehensive educational and therapeutic program for students with multiple disabilities, empowering them to reach their full potential by becoming contributing and productive members of society. The scope and sequence of the programs continuously evolve and are adapted to meet the ever-changing and diverse needs of our student population.

Secondly, as a demonstration school we are committed to providing educational, observational, and research opportunities to professionals in the fields of special education, early childhood education, educational technology, as well as other disciplines, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and social work, among others.

By providing both a model program for our students and future practitioners, it is our goal that the programs at A. Harry Moore set the standards for educating students with multiple disabilities and those who work with them.
